Professor Field, who has taught at two other law schools, is a charter member of the Pierce Law Faculty. His experience is varied and includes being a patent examiner (alkene polymers), an arbitrator, mediator and expert witness in various kinds of disputes. In addition, he was a Humboldt Fellow at the Max Planck Institute (for IP and unfair trade practices) in Munich, Germany, and an IP consultant to the government of Malaysia. Professor Field serves on the U.S. Patent Quarterly (BNA) editorial board, was the founding editor of the interdisciplinary quarterly Risk: Health, Safety & Environment, and is the faculty advisor to IDEA, a student-edited IP Journal He has published widely (including software) and often revises his two IP casebooks.
