IP at Pierce Law: IP Faculty
Kevin J. Carroll, Esq.Professor of Law, B.S., University of Notre Dame Professor Carroll is the Director of the Patent Practice and Procedure Program at Pierce Law. As the Director of this unique program, Professor Carroll teaches both Patent Practice and Procedure I and II and oversees the instruction provided by the adjunct faculty members in the patent practice break-out sections. Professor Carroll has been involved with the Patent Practice and Procedure Program at Pierce Law for over 10 years. He began teaching with the late Professor Bob Shaw, the originator of the program, and helped to pioneer the current format of the program. Kevin Carroll is a junior partner of GTPP and specializes in U.S. and international protection for innovations in optical communications components and systems, software systems and interfaces, control systems, business method and Internet architectures, medical devices and complex mechanical and electro-mechanical components and systems. Kevin has prepared and prosecuted U.S., international and foreign patent applications for over 10 years and has prepared numerous invalidity, infringement and use opinions. Kevin is also involved in technology transfer and intellectual property license agreements and has provided litigation support and served as an expert witness in patent litigation. Kevin's clients range from start-up companies and independent inventors to universities and publicly-traded companies. Prior to beginning his legal studies, Kevin worked as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications in the areas of electrical connectors and machine tools. Kevin was also a clerk in the Office of Unfair Import Investigations at the International Trade Commission, where he provided litigation support and assisted staff attorneys with Section 337 proceedings. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame; and completed his law degree at Franklin Pierce Law Center. Kevin is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Section. He is admitted to practice in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. He has extensive legal teaching and lecture experience educating the next generation of patent law experts at Franklin Pierce Law Center. He has also served as a judge for young inventors at local science fairs sponsored by the Young Inventors Program.
